The historic Spanish city of Vigan is about 35-minutes to the north of The Oriental Terraces Spa & Resort and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Former Governor Chavit Singson lives here in Vigan and his private zoo, located at Baluarte, is open to members of the public for free. You can visit the old Governor's Mansion, see his office and even sit in his chair!
Horse drawn carriages or 'Kalesas' are still used as taxis in this historic city, clattering along Vigan's cobbled streets, rain or shine. There are excellent shops, city hotels and restaurants here with almost all types of food available.
Just off the town's square is the St. Paul's Metropolitan Cathedral, a very beautiful Spanish building with an unusual, octagonal belfry that was constructed ten metres to the south of the cathedral itself.
Vigan is famous for its locally carved woodcrafts and excellent hand-made wooden furniture; these can all be purchased from the many interesting shops and arcades near to the city centre. Vigan is also famous for its roof and floor tiles and various terra-cotta pottery (using Bantog clay), which you can either, watch being made or, have a go yourself.
For a good night out in Vigan you can either, take advantage of many nightclubs and restaurants that offer a tantalising range local delicacies or, visit one of the local cinemas.
A modern, air-conditioned shopping mall with supermarket can be found on the National Highway just outside the city proper.
